Terms and Conditions

Last updated 4 October 2026

folie is a Mac app that keeps the screenshots you take of work you liked, filed with the real typefaces, five colors and a name you can search. These terms are the deal between you and the maker of folie.

They are written to be read. If something here is unclear, ask, and the answer will be added to this page.

Who this is between

In these terms, "folie" means the Mac app, the optional browser extension and this website at folie-mac.netlify.app. "We" and "us" mean the maker of folie, an independent developer working alone. "You" means the person who buys or uses folie.

By installing folie, starting the trial or buying a license, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use folie.

The trial

folie includes a free trial, which starts the first time you open the app. The trial is the full app. It needs no payment details, no account and no key.

When the trial ends, folie stops taking new captures until you enter a license key. Everything you already captured stays on your Mac, and you can still open, browse and export it.

What you are buying

One payment buys a perpetual license to use folie on the number of Macs you chose at checkout: 1, 2 or 3 Macs. It does not expire. There is no subscription, no renewal, no account and nothing to cancel. You will not be charged again.

Every future update to folie is included in that one payment.

The license is personal to you. You may use it on Macs you own or control, for personal or commercial work. A license for a number of Macs is not a license for that number of people.

To move folie to a different Mac, choose Deactivate this Mac in folie's settings on the old one, then enter your key on the new one.

You are buying the right to use folie, not the software itself. folie, its code, its name and its mark stay ours.

Price and payment

The price is the one shown at checkout, and it is charged once. folie launches at a lower price for the first 100 copies. After those, the regular price applies. A price change only affects future buyers. It never reaches back to a purchase already made.

Lemon Squeezy is the Merchant of Record for every sale. That means Lemon Squeezy is the seller you pay. They process the payment, calculate and collect any sales tax or VAT, issue your receipt and invoice, and handle refunds. Their own terms and privacy policy apply to the checkout and the payment.

Your license key is delivered by Lemon Squeezy after checkout.

Refunds

You have 14 days to change your mind. Ask for a refund within 14 days of buying and you get your money back. You do not need a reason.

Ask at support email, to be published. The refund itself is issued by Lemon Squeezy to the way you paid. Once a purchase is refunded, its license key stops working.

After 14 days, purchases are not refundable, except where the law where you live says otherwise.

Your API key, and the model you pick

folie runs no server of its own and does not read your captures itself. To name and classify a capture, it sends it to a model you choose in Settings. That is either Anthropic's Claude, using your own Anthropic API key, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint you set up. That endpoint can be a model running on your own Mac, such as Ollama, or a hosted service.

The relationship with that provider is yours, not ours. You hold the account and you pay them. Their terms and their privacy policy govern what they do with what you send. We are not a party to it, we do not resell their service, and we are not responsible for their prices, their availability or their answers.

Any cost of using Claude or a hosted model is yours, and it is separate from what you paid for folie. folie does not include model usage. Run a model on your own Mac and that cost is your own hardware.

Your keys are stored in the macOS Keychain on your Mac. Each key is sent only to the endpoint it belongs to, and never to us.

The browser extension

The Chrome extension is optional and free. It reads which font families a page uses and passes them to the folie app on your own Mac, so a capture is labelled with the real typefaces instead of a guess. It sends nothing to any server.

The extension is covered by these same terms. It is only useful together with the app, and you may not distribute a modified copy of it.

What you capture stays yours

Your captures are files on your own disk. We claim no rights over them, we never see them, and nothing in these terms gives us a license to them.

You are responsible for what you capture and what you do with it. A screenshot of someone else's work is still their work. folie files it for you. It does not give you any right to reuse it.

Acceptable use

You may not:

Our intellectual property

folie, including the app, the extension, this website, the name "folie" and the logo, belongs to us and is protected by copyright and other laws. These terms give you a license to use folie. They do not give you any other right to our work, our name or our mark.

If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them freely, with no obligation to you.

Updates, and what folie runs on

Updates are included for as long as folie is developed. That does not mean every feature lives forever. Features can change or be removed when there is a good reason, and the version you already have keeps working either way.

folie needs macOS 14 or later and runs on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. A future version may need a newer macOS. Older versions stay usable on the Macs they support.

To check your license, folie contacts Lemon Squeezy when you activate a key and then about once a week. If it cannot reach them for a while, folie keeps working. The Privacy Policy says exactly what that check sends.

No warranty

folie is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will be uninterrupted, free of errors, or suitable for a particular purpose.

In particular, the names, labels, fonts and colors on a capture come from a model reading an image, or from what a page reports. Models get things wrong. Check anything that matters before you rely on it.

Your captures live in one folder on your Mac. Backing them up means copying that folder, and keeping a backup is up to you.

Limits on liability

To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for anything connected with folie is limited to the amount you paid for folie. If you used folie without paying, for example during the trial, that amount is zero.

We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits, lost data or lost time.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Some places do not allow some of these exclusions. Where that is true, they do not apply to you, and the rest of this section still stands.

Ending the license

You can stop using folie whenever you like. Delete the app. Your captures folder stays where it is and stays yours.

We can end your license if you seriously break these terms, for example by sharing your key or redistributing folie. When a license ends, you must stop using folie. Ending a license for a breach does not entitle you to a refund outside the 14-day window.

The sections on what you capture, our intellectual property, no warranty and limits on liability continue to apply after a license ends.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, the date at the top of this page changes, and a significant change is described on this page. The terms in force when you bought folie keep governing that purchase. They cannot take away anything you already paid for.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of governing law, to be named, and disputes go to the courts of jurisdiction, to be named. If you are a consumer, this does not take away any protection you have under the law of the place you live.

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.
